1. In reference to the excitement of riding in our securtiy golf cart, "Yeah, it's fun until you're chasing all those motherf#$%ers around! I ain't never hit no kids though. Chris, on his first day, hit a kid and broke that bas@#$#'s arm!" Glad she's a security officer
2. In reference to a student not performing very well on her homework, "Maaaaan, I was DRUNK last night! Can't say no to that Hennessy!"
3. "Do you think my probation officer is going to be mad that I've missed two days this week? I'm on probation cuz they found my gun"
4. "My child was not smoking pot on this campus! He smoked BEFORE he got to school!"
And other notables:
5. In reference to students fighting over who was my favorite, "Ms. Haskin said I make her laugh more than anyone and I'm the reason she's coming back next year!"
6. "Ms. Haskin, for a tall lady, you have really nice feet"
7. "You are crazy Ms Haskin.....but I love you" (written by a student who had taken a vow of silence in hopes of getting better work habits/cooperation grades....and is GRADUATING!!!!)
8. "Gompers is a special school under special circumstances" a note on a newsletter from our principal
9. In reference to a call over the walkie-talkies carried by administration team, "We need a wheelchair in room 76. Mr. Foulkes has been hit by a skittle!"
10. On the morning announcements, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United State of America and to the ...uh, uh.....nevermind, I can't remember the rest of it and I know you're not listening anyways...." from the assistant principal himself.

Things I am excited about at this precise moment...
1. That I am cooking for the first time since my sister and I moved in together on our gas stove (yes, it's been over a month) and that there has been no fire! Granted, it was pre-packaged veggies...but a start nonetheless!
2. That I finished doing "Hip Hop Abs" with a smile on my face. I am guilty of indulging in infomercial hoop-la (think: abchair, turbo iron, tummy tucker, body cleanse, etc.) This has definitely been the best investment!
3. That I had such an encouraging day of work full of new ideas, organization, productivity, and hard work from my students (even from the stubborn ones!). I've gotten four new students in the last two weeks and they're definitely in need of some prayer! (One came in with Mexican gang symbols tattooed all up her arm and is the SWEETEST thing in the world, another is here and doesn't quite understand school-appropriate material/topics/etc, think: explicit, one was here last year and transferred but came back to be attacked by three other students which was followed by moms coming and getting involved/fighting/yelling gang threats/and ultimately being arrested, and the last seems like a total sweetheart but all have come to Gompers because of fighting issues at their previous schools).
4. That I am listening to a sermon from a church in Austin that a long-lost friend/Bible Study leader and her husband are going to be speaking on soon. About missionaries.
5. I just found out my best friend of almost 12 years is coming in town tomorrow!! YAH for Desiree Isis Koninendyke Sharpe (Buckman)!!!! Looking forward to chatting, sleep overs, catching up, etc.
